“Cross Winds”

8” H x 11”W x 8”D

Bronze, Ed. 5 (Sold Out)

Greg has had the reference material for this piece in our archives for quite some time. We had taken some shots of our own longhorns (some longhorn-coriente cross) during a spring squall that brought some gusty winds and snow. They way they hunched and huddled was a great composition for a sculpture. The way they stuck together to weather the winds hit a personal note. This year seemed the perfect year to make the piece come to life. After feeding our longhorns all winter, and just having gone and gotten another load of hay to keep them home while we were away at the Russell show, had them on Greg's mind. For a cowboy guy who is also an artist there seems to be a lot of cross winds when it comes to keeping livestock. A strong cross wind can blow you off course it you're not careful. It takes both hands on the wheel to steer through. Of course, Greg uses them as models, a beef every other year, and roping cattle, but the time involved to care for them keeps us hopping. With his art career on the rise and the amount of traveling we do, it is a constant battle to keep up. It was in this frame of mind that we came up with the title and idea. We were on the road pursuing his career and love of art while leaving his other love at home (ranch life) -- with a pile of work needing to be done. The cross winds have made us bear down to keep what makes Greg's art so authentic, real and passionate, while stepping forward in the art world as a serious artist, motivated to use his gifts to portray the life he loves.
